HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MATTRESS

Regular maintenance for longer mattress life.

Your mattress requires routine attention to provide long term comfort and support. With a few pointers and practices for how to properly care for your investment, you’ll be sleeping soundly long after you bring your mattress home.

1

Flip and Rotate

Zipper Top Mattresses

Zipper Top mattresses come in one-layer and two-layer foam topper options. For both options, flip and rotate each piece once per year. If your mattress has two foam layers, make sure to keep the top layer on top.

Non-Zippered Mattresses

Non-zippered mattresses come in either two-sided, flippable mattresses, or one sided, non-flippable mattresses. Flippable mattresses should be flipped and rotated once per year, and non-flippable mattresses should be rotated once per year.

2

Use a Mattress Pad or Mattress Protector

While pads and protectors both offer protection from wear and tear, the mattress protector takes it a step further as a moisture barrier. While this clearly helps prevent stains, there is more to it than that: dealing with moisture from perspiration. Protecting your bed from incremental amounts of moisture over time is just as important as protecting it from larger spills. When the high-density polyurethane foam inside your mattress gets damp, it loses its ability to rebound and can cause early foam compression. By keeping the foam dry, your mattress will last longer.

Spend a little extra for a higher quality mattress protector. Today’s best mattress protectors are not only waterproof, but breathable as well so they don’t build up heat.

3

Pair Your New Mattress with a New Foundation

We recommend that you purchase a new foundation when you buy your new mattress. It may seem like using the old box spring is an easy place for extra savings, but that’s not the case in the long run. A mattress and box spring age together. An old foundation has developed flaws right along with its original mattress. These flaws can transfer through to any new mattress placed upon it, causing the new mattress to break down faster. Investing in a complete set up front saves you the trouble of having to buy another mattress prematurely. You can learn more about how to choose the best box spring for you here.

4

Air Out Your Mattress

This is an easy one! Any time you launder your bedding, let the mattress sit without bedding for an hour or two. This allows the mattress to "breathe", releasing any moisture that has accumulated in the mattress.

5

Regular Cleaning

Every 6 months and use your vacuum’s upholstery attachment to gently clean the surface, sides and edges to remove dust and hair.

6

Trampolines Are For Jumping

But your mattress isn’t! As much fun as your kids have bouncing on the bed, you won’t have much fun sleeping on it after. Need to change the bulbs in the light above the bed? Avoid standing on or walking across your mattress, which can damage the coils or prematurely compress the bed’s support and comfort layers.
