Why We Do Security?
Security often gets a bad rap as the ‘Department of No,’ but there is a really good reason for that. We exist to protect the business and the organization from exploit, attack, and breach. Sometimes, it’s even our job to protect the business from itself. That protection comes from preventing mistakes and vulnerabilities, and that often comes with a side of ‘no.’ But really, security is enabling the business or organization to succeed, preventing a catastrophic security failure.
Governance is how we know what it is that needs to be done, what to protect, where to focus, how much to spend. In our walk up through the five layers of the Data-Centric Security Model, we started with securing your most sensitive Data, then the Identities that access that Data, the Networks we traffic on, and the Platforms at either end, but Governance is where it becomes relevant and focused on the specific needs of your organization.”
