In my last blog, How to Implement a Secure ‘Mobile First’ Strategy, I talked about the importance of viewing mobility as a mandate from your network users.
Mobility is extremely important to modern organizations, not only for communications and collaboration but also for business innovation. As the world looks forward to 5G, mobility will become ingrained in nearly everything we do, from driving cars to ordering groceries. Smart companies are embracing their mobile potentialities today with solutions from Rolta AdvizeX and Aruba Networks.
How can Rolta AdvizeX and Aruba help your business step up its mobility posture? Let’s look at some of the things we’re doing for our customers today…
In healthcare organizations, mobility continues to shape the way that physicians and hospitals deliver patient care. Hospitals have always been on the cutting edge of mobility, from the earliest forms of mobile communications (remember pagers?) to today’s use of tablets and virtual desktop environments. Now, we’re seeing more hospitals implement new devices such as Vocera communications badges (think of those communicators from Star Trek) to facilitate critical, real-time communications between hospital workers. Together with Aruba, we help hospitals ensure they have robust wireless security and uptime resiliency in place to ensure those critical communications don’t get dropped.
Universities also struggle with wireless density. In a real sense, education is on the front lines of the “mobile first” mindset because mobility is literally one of the first things on the minds of new students. In fact, if a visiting student isn’t impressed with the on-campus mobile experience, they may choose not to apply to that school. Unfortunately, many universities are dealing with aging wireless infrastructures. We work with universities to identify their coverage gaps, replace older technology with advanced Aruba access points and deliver a mobile experience that meets their growing needs.
Retailers are using mobility to improve their in-store experience. Providing in-store wi-fi was the first step. Now, we’re working with retailers to use wi-fi access, Bluetooth tracking beacons, and mobile apps to help customers locate products within their store. Aruba’s Meridian product tracks customers as they move through your store or mall, so customers can get turn-by-turn directions to quickly find what they need and stores can find where the best placement is for kiosks and promotional displays.
Even companies can have a hard time finding their own products. Manufacturing companies in particular often struggle to manage their own inventory and shipments. We’re working with a major tire supplier, for example, to build a wireless inventory tracking system for them that will help locate products in their warehouses as well as track products as they enter and leave the warehouse. Aruba products play a key role in this solution by providing a wireless tracking solution that integrates with the supplier’s existing inventory system.
Mobile security is a big concern at nearly every company. As more mobile devices access the network, companies need to be careful that they’re not bringing malware or malevolent agents into their network. One solution to this problem is device fingerprinting. Using Aruba ClearPass, companies can fingerprint an incoming mobile device to check for the presence of malware, authenticate user identity, detect if a device is jailbroken, etc. ClearPass then provides steps for auto-remediation; for example, if malware is present, a pop-up guide will appear at login telling the mobile user how to remove malware from their device. This approach not only increases security, but reduces the number of Help Desk tickets that would normally be created to solve problems.
These are just some of the examples of how organizations are meeting their mobile challenges through innovative approaches. If you’ve got a mobile challenge to address, talk to Rolta AdvizeX about Aruba—we’ll get you connected with the right solution. ▪
