Burlap & Chalkboard Fabric Gift Bags

Give a festive gift this season with a burlap and chalkboard fabric gift bag! This project costs less than $1 bag.

What you need:

  • 1 can of Krylon Spray Paint (color of your choice).
  • Burlap bags -- the size depends on what you want to make. If you are making a bottle gift bag - then you need 2 pieces of 7.5 inch wide by 16 inch long panels. For anything else, measure your goodies and then add 2 inches to the width and 6 inches to the height.
  • Canvas -- enough to make your tags.
  • Any other embellishments. I used some Dollar Store Faux Pine Pipe Cleaners, two coordinating ribbons, and an ornament from the Dollar Store that came in packages of 6 for $1.

How and How Long:

  1. Cut out your panels (see above recommendations on size).
  2. Spray paint Your canvas or other type of heavy material. Let dry. Then cut out a circle by tracing around a cup with a pencil. I used my Big Shot and Flower Dir Cut to cut out my canvas shapes.
  3. Then sew the chalkboard painted canvas shapes onto one of the burlap panels. I positioned mine 5 inches from the bottom of the panel. I used a zig-zag stitch.
  4. Now break out your fabulous Chalkboard pens and write something - you can buy them at Michael's.
  5. Turn right side out and now all you need to do is add some ribbon and whatever other embellishments you want!
Approximate project time: less than one hour.

What it Costs:

Cost is approximately $6-7, for one can of spray paint as well as dollar store embellishments.
