The Little Brown House - Shutter Revamp

I found an old shutter for $1.50 at a thrift store and wanted to turn it into something cute. Using a wall stencil, I spray painted it black and white, put vinyl lettering and numbers on it, and hung it outside our front door as a welcome sign. Very inexpensive and easy project with a big impact!

What you need:

  • (1) can of Krylon flat spray paint in whatever color you choose
  • Large stencil
  • Tape and plastic to cover shutter while painting
  • Vinyl numbers and letters of your choice

How and How Long:

  1. Spray base color all over shutter - depending on original color this may take more than one coat. Allow to dry for a few hours.
  2. Tape stencil into desired position, cover remaining exposed shutter with plastic.
  3. Lightly spray stencil with contrast color of your choice. Be sure to use even, steady strokes. Allow to dry for several hours before removing stencil.
  4. Apply vinyl house numbers and welcome letters to shutter, and you are done!
Approximate project time: 1 hour (not including dry time).

What it Costs:

Cost is $15, for one can of spray paint and stencil kit.
