Weathered Patina


  If you love the look of aged copper patina, this ornate door knocker will look right at home on your front door.

What you need:

  • Krylon Metallic Paints - Light Anodized Bronze (#2205)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint - Blue Ocean Breeze (#51512)
  • Krylon Premium Metallic - Copper Brilliance (#1020)
  • Door Knocker or Project of your choice
  • Small sea sponge
  • Spray bottle of water
  • Newspaper
  • Disposable rubber gloves
  • Disposable plastic tub

How and How Long:

  1. Place project on newspaper to protect work area.
  2. Spray one coat of Blue Ocean Breeze on front, back and all sides. Let dry.
  3. Spray entire project with light mist of water. Wearing rubber gloves, spray Light Anodized Bronze into disposable plastic tub to form a puddle of paint. Dip sponge into paint and wipe lightly and evenly on entire project. Let dry.
  4. To soften patina, repeat Step 3 using Copper Brilliance very lightly. Let dry thoroughly.
  5. For added protection of your finished project, spray several light coats of Krylon® Crystal Clear or Satin Finish as a final step. For projects that will be used outdoors or near a window, use Krylon® UV-Resistant Clear. 
Approximate project time: 1.5 hours.
