How and How Long:
- In a well-ventilated area and following the directions on the can, spray each of the wood hearts with Gray primer. Let dry.
- Spray two of the primed wood hearts with Magnetic paint. Let dry and repeat for at least 5 coats. The more coats of paint, the stronger the magnetic attraction.
- Glue clothespin about 2" from the point of the third primed wood heart. This will be the shelf for the chalk (see photo). Let dry. Spray heart with Chalkboard paint. Let dry and repeat for a total of three or more coats.
- Center vellum paper on one of the magnetic wood hearts and trace a heart shape about 1" larger than the wood heart. Repeat. Cut out vellum hearts and center one on each magnetic wood heart. Cut slits in the edges of the velum paper and turn to the back of the heart taping in place. Repeat for the second magnetic heart.
- Glue feather boa around the back edge of each vellum covered heart so it extends in the front of the heart.
- Draw a heart about 1" larger than the chalkboard heart on the stiff felt and cut out. Glue ball fringe to the edge of the chalkboard heart on the backside of the heart. Glue felt heart to back of chalkboard heart. The felt helps keep the ball fringe in place.
- Glue one magnetic heart to each end of the Styrofoam sheet at a slight angle as shown. Glue the chalkboard heart in the center of the Styrofoam.
- Glue a strip of felt to cover the front of the clothespin and glue a row of ball fringe to the felt. Glue a couple of hearts or flowers to the chalk ledge. Trim shanks from buttons and glue a magnet to the back of each button.
- Twist chenille stem into a loop and insert and glue into top back of Styrofoam as a hanger. Place chalk on ledge.
Approximate project time: 2 hours.
