Porch Railing & Spindles

Nothing says 'welcome home' like a front porch. Convince buyers to stay by keeping yours like new; spruce up weathered railings and spindles with a fresh coat of paint. Krylon's EZ Touch 360 dial will make the job fast and easy.

What you need:

  • 4 cans Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer in a color close to your paint color (optional)
  • 4 cans Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint in desired color
  • Drop cloths
  • Masking material (masking tape, newspaper, plastic sheets)
  • Medium Grit Sandpaper
  • Tack cloth

How and How Long:

  1. Place a drop cloth underneath and around the railing to catch any runs or drips and to eliminate unnecessary cleanup. Use drop cloths or other masking materials to completely cover the porch floor and all other surrounding areas to protect from overspray.
  2. Clean dirt and loose paint from the surface of the railing and spindles. Sand imperfections smooth and wipe clean with a tack cloth.
  3. If surface is bare wood or metal, it is best to use a primer first. Following instructions on the can, apply several thin coats of primer to spindles and posts first, followed by the railing. Use short sweeping strokes to avoid overspray. If runs or drips occur, sand smooth and reapply primer. Let dry.
  4. Apply Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint in the same order that you applied the primer, making sure to follow instructions on the can. Multiple light coats work best.
  5. Let dry and enjoy.

Approximate project time: 3-4 hours

What it Costs:

Cost is $40.
